Takes bottle to steal off Aristotle….

This post is aimed helping you evaluate your personal approach to sharing your work and ideas with others and the subsequent impact your approach has on both yourself and your relationships with others.

Imagine this scenario….(WORK)

  • You are working as part of a key project at work.
  • You chat through some of the ideas you have with a colleague
  • They take your ideas from the conversation and they utilise the key elements for the project they are working on
  • They present and it gets amazing feedback from the Boss

Trust it would be fair to suggest that most people would be angrier than puff the magic dragon blowing out birthday candles…

Now reflect on this example…..(HOME)

  • You are at home with your daughter helping her with a school project
  • You chat through some of the ideas you have with your daughter
  • Your daughter takes the ideas from the conversation and utilises the key elements for the project she is working on
  • She presents it and gets amazing feedback from Principal Skinner

Trust it would be fair to suggest that most people would be happier than a corgi on stilts…..

So….what’s that all that about Alfie? Let’s park that thought for 2 shakes of a donkey’s tail.

Now consider these pearls of wisdom from everyone’s favourite Freddy Boswell lookalike, Mark Twain…..

If you are over 40 You probably remember this guy as the man responsible for you having to endure The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn every single morning of the six weeks holidays. Sadist!

If you are under 40, attempt to furrow you millennial botox filled brow and we will swiftly move on….

What MT correctly observes is that in essence, all ideas are second hand.

If you think someone copied off you, then you have probably done the same to someone else. This has been the drill all the way back past even Aristotle.

Aristotle was the author of a philosophical and scientific system that became the framework for parts of both Christian and Islamic religion and here you are, claiming Sneaky Sue posted a meme about happiness on Facey B that you had shown her on your lunch break yesterday.

Hard to believe Aristotle is turning in his grave so…Get a bloody Grip you utter Drip!

Back to the Work and Home examples earlier…..

The difference between the two examples is probably unconditional love…

In Home environments we spend our lives building culture and traditions to function in an environment of love and safety. Strong family’s protect each other and grow as a unit.

Whilst it is perhaps a step too far to view Sneaky Sue with unconditional  love right now, maybe adopting an approach towards unconditional sharing is your next step.

Just think how much stronger our organisations would become if we did?

In conclusion, everything, is a purely a build on something else….Just….

Because it wasn’t really your idea anyway….
